Speech recognition

Fill in Translations by speaking instead of typing. This helps with voice notes, quick drafts, or hands-free work.

Turn it on

Section titled “Turn it on”

Open Settings and turn on Speech recognition. The first time, Windows asks for permission to use your microphone. Click Allow.

Pick the dictation language

Section titled “Pick the dictation language”

Choose the language you want to speak in from the Speech recognition language list. Pick the same language as the Translation you are filling in.

Dictate a Translation

Section titled “Dictate a Translation”
  1. Click into the Translation cell you want to fill.
  2. Speak clearly. Your words appear in the cell as you talk.
  3. Pause when you finish. Read the text and fix any mistakes.

Turn it off

Section titled “Turn it off”

When you are done, open Settings and turn off Speech recognition. Your microphone stops listening.
